You may access SandBucket workstation (now as a  VNC server, later by Windows Terminal Server) by one of the following ways

 as target address, give:  81.57.148.97  (Note that this address is subject to change)

At this time (if you are'nt registered) the "GOOD" completion is the popup window asking for a password, no more.

Description of sandbucket

Access to VNC server

Remind that your exchanges may be wathched and logged.
Try to connect as mentioned above
- if VNCserver is running, you will be prompted for VNC password, modify option to "shared" and go
- during  housekeeping, I will shutdown the server and you will not be prompted for password
- during "private booked" session, I will change temporarily the VNC password and you will not succeed.
I will try to keep up-to-date the planning visible in the array at the bottom of this page.

Smart access:
I thing that the good practice is:  to create on your desktop a  shortcut
   - create it by "rigth click on  RealVncViewer Icon in MenuStart, then drag the shortcu icon over your desktop
   - open the property (right click) and add at the end of line:  81.57.148.97  /shared 
  
Policy for time-sharing of sandbucket workstation

Note that a non shared connection has only to be used if you WANT disconect current user, its seems not correct.

We will also assume as policy, that if you don't change your active VNC password, that means that you agree to be watched  and in some case interrupted.

You are invited to try any user's mistake but to respect the (unprotected) rules listed below :
- don't try to login as administrator (or another account than your own)
- when you don't have an appointment, use a "shared" connexion to avoid to disconnect a previous user
- sign your presence, your startup group open with notepad a file named "your_name-wpx.txt", please minimize it  and leave it on the task bar.
- if you change screen resolution [break the link, you need, quickly, a new connection], please restore to 800x600 before leaving
- if you enter wathching in an opened window, please don't disturb, go away.
- when you finish, close your session. If needed you may "restart the computer", never "shutdown" the computer. (In case of shutdown, Sandbucket will be unavailable until human LOCAL intervention)
- Ask before modifying settings for VNC server.
- Once your W2K session is started, you may modify the VNC password so that no other user  will be allowed to connect to Sandbucket.
    (Of course, for your next visit you have to use the original password received, since your session is closed)

Policy for Windows 2000
- Please change your win2k password to a personnal string as soon as possible.
   (when session is open, send "ctrl+alt+del" and on the login screen choose "changer de mot de passe"
- If you have received accounts with different rights, work with restricted rights as long as you don't need to proceed to an installation.
- Try installed software with your restricted account.

Uploading and downloading files on Sandbucket

The firewall forbid direct communications with Internet; when you need to exchange file, please,
send an email to  mailto:ishtar-int@inrets.fr
- for upload, attach ONE zipped file; you will find a copy on the desktop in folder "Mes Documents"
- for download, prepare a zip file and give me the fully-qualified name.

International keyboard

Hello,
I have to add a paragraph about national keyboard on the web page of sandbucket. From my point of view, it seems that:  the Windows 2000 installed on sandbucket contains most of european languages & keyboards (but not Greek, sorry).
The VNC password is, of course, typed using your local keyboard.
The login screen offers two languages: Fr and En, but from remote VNC client your local keyboard is used again (regardless of the square shown).
You may use the combination <alt>+<LeftShift> to swap language, but there is no impact on the alphabet used).
Note that, in some circumstance, alt+LeftShift will also swap your local keyboard.
Once you have opened your Windows session on sandbucket, that is more confused: some observations:
1) By "Démarrer" --> "paramètres" --> "Panneau de configuration" --> "Clavier" choose the tab: "Paramètre régionnaux d'entrée" you may add a new set (parameters and keyboard) for your national configuration.
2) If you want that each new window use a dedicated configuration, use the "Par defaut" button to define it
3) Now, using a left mouse click on the blue language square near the clock, you may choose your language (For the current windows)
4) for the test, open a notepad and try letters and special characters it appears that letters mays be translated by the local or Vnc keyboard for the upper row (digits) it see that if my local and sambucket are set to "En" upper & lower case are inverted (two reciprocal translations!) but special characters seems better by choosing keyboard only -on sandbucket waiting for a solution, some by pass:
5) If you know the layout of a French keyboard (I will publish a photo on the web page soon ), you will have the full set of characters using "Fr" on the two sides.
6) If you set the language on sandbucket corresponding to your local keyboard AND you set your local keyboard to Fr, I found that most of the usual characters are transmited.
ould you please try from your workstation and send echo so that we have a better guide

Troubleshooting

  If youd don't succeed to connect please follow thoses steps:

- open a Windows command line and report the results
- hit:  ping 81.57.148.97      (if no response the stop is before my router)
- hit: tracert 81.57.148.87    (will locate the last accessible step)
- telnet  81.57.148.97 5900  (if ping have responded and not telnet, VNC server is down, any other response is OK)

- try the two connect methods (Java & Vnc viewer)
- if your VNC password is rejected, may be a booked session is in progress, watch the schedule above.
